The last time I had to do that, I simply reminded my... underlings where they came from, and where we were going. A bit too long to repeat word for word, of course. Couple that with a little reminder of what the alternative means, and...

"Underlings," for one. "Coworkers" or "teammates" is the word most people use.

That and I'd categorize that approach as more "cold" than "cool."

If you met them, you would also call them that. You can't let them get too big of a head, or else it will swell enough to clog the sump.
