VIDEO | @CHAINSMOKER
( this is what you wanted to be greeted with when opening the network, right? a woman sat on an unmade bed with her legs crossed ankle over knee, ashtray full on a bedside table, looking about as enthused as a rock as she's so very clearly scrolls through some searches. )
So, video games.
( great opening line. didn't even introduce herself. )
I get what they are from looking it up, but what's the point in some of these? PowerWash Simulator? Farming Simulator 56? American Truck Simulator? You could just go outside and do some of this.
( is she smoking inside her bedroom? also yes. sorry if that gets into the vents, redemption team. )
... I also need suggestions for games. And no, I don't have experience in it which means I don't have enough to make a preference with.

( a greenhouse though.. she hasn't seen it yet, but it could be fun to at least poke her head into to check out. )
it couldn't hurt. i haven't bothered with the rest of the facility. i know where the cafeteria is, and that's about it.
when?

[ She was trying to get Stark to go there with her (by not telling him she wanted to go there) but then they ended up at the cafeteria instead. ]
If you want to continue smoking, then I suggest we go now. Otherwise, we can go the next time you feel like doing just that.

now's good.
( and considering the complaint, she at least knows they're in the same wing of the building. )
i'll meet you in the end of the hall.
→ action!?
Very well.
[ Very shortly, Fern will be emerging basically from the other end of the hall, being in Room 013 and all... And simply by reflex, she turns as if to pull the door closed, only to have it slide back into position without further ceremony. She's still getting used to all of this.
Anyhow, down the hall she goes, keeping an eye out for whoever else emerges out into the hallway in this wing. ]
→ action!!
Hey.
( a little wave, two fingers raised in some form of a salute. )
I assume you're the one benevolent enough to help a poor soul out.
( a gesture of a hand, lazy but sweeping. for her to go on ahead. she's spent so much time outside of the building that she hasn't even tried exploring this one. )
Hopefully nothing in there will eat us.

[ Fern definitely radiates the aura of someone who would be nicknamed babysitter on the network, at least. At her gesture, Fern starts to make her way in the general direction of the recreational area. ]
Let's hope not. Though I'm sure we can act in self-defense if that's the case...
[ A beat. ]
...My name is Fern, by the way. I'm... glad to meet another teammate.
[ Despite it happening with some light verbal scolding to start. ]

not that she minds too much, just as she doesn't particularly mind that the start of their conversation started with some chiding. spoken like a woman who's used to it. )
Tao.
( a slight nod in her direction is pretty much her version of non-verbally communicating that it's nice to meet her, too. despite the lack of boisterous enthusiasm. )
Think they keep some of those things around on base? We did just hand them a bunch of those babies over.
no subject
I... I don't know what to think of any of this, to be honest. The monsters we fight at home become dust when they're killed, so there would never be an opportunity to... keep them around.

I guess that's something of a dubious advantage if they can get something out of whatever research they're doing with them.
( not that she hasn't heard her fair share of dissatistaction and distrust towards their new employer. like what are they really doing with those samples, and the like. )
If given the chance, would you keep the ones you fought before around to study?
no subject
Well...
[ She looks a bit thoughtful at that question. ]
...No, I don't think I have an interest in such things. But my teacher would. There are some monsters that leave something behind, and she always seems interested in those for some reason...
What about you, Miss Tao?
no subject
so this one has a teacher, one who has an interest in this sort of stuff. she wonders if they're around, or if they've been tasked to be among the researchers. )
... Not my thing. ( scholarly pursuits like that are above her pay grade. ) Ours don't stick around either when killed, and to keep one for too long would be too dangerous with what we had on hand.
( none of this fancy tech were available, that's for sure. )
If it'd help get rid of the source altogether? And I knew they can keep themselves safe while doing what they need to? Maybe.

It's not quite the same, but... that's how some spells were developed, where I'm from. Mages studied demons' magic and then adapted them for our use... and now, we use them to kill monsters. [ A beat. ] That's a very pragmatic way of looking at it, Miss Tao.
[ Also, walking them through the recreation area... Fern has no idea what any of the things in here are, but maybe Tao does? So she asks: ]
By the way... Do you know what the machines in here do...? I did see someone use the machine for running in place, but...
