When he talks, his voice drips with venom, low and dangerous.]

Raidou's theory is being proven right - Hiyori got sucked into a rift as well. I'm going in after her, damn the consequences.

Yeah, everybody kinda beat it out of me, so to speak.

I don't want to become just another burden on everyone when we're already taxed to our limits as is.

And if you backslide about it, I'll make sure to do the same!

It's not just about becoming a burden, it's also about making the best and most rational decision for the sake of those we want to save, based on what information we have. If we knew things were stable or safe on the other side, we'd all be heading right through the next one that opened up.

I dunno how you guys can be so calm and collected about this. I'm practically jumping out of my skin from nerves and wanting to do something. I know if I didn't have everybody here, I'd just be acting on impulse. It's times like this I wish my guidepost were here...

I don't think any of us are calm about this. But one thing I learned as a soldier is that no matter how bad things get, you have to do your best to not let it overtake you, or else more mistakes will be made. And that can be the difference between life and death.

If you don't have your 'guidepost' here, what or whoever that is, you have to become your own.

Mmm... I know all this well enough, it's just when it comes to Hiyori being in danger, I've started becoming reckless. I never used to be like this...

Dunno how you can guide yourself... That's the whole point of guideposts - to show gods the way and help keep them in check.

The same emotions that make us stronger also become our biggest point of weakness, when it's put in danger.

But, just because you're a god doesn't mean you can't use your brain, right? Everyone needs guidance at some points, but that prepares you to look after yourself when you really need it.

Yeah, I'm starting to realize that. It's frustrating, to say the least. I need to figure out how to calm the fuck down and think things through.

--true. We just struggle to keep our emotions in line when angered or fearful. Doesn't mean I can't think for myself, though. It's just so much easier to do things rather than sit and wait.

I'm not a fan of sitting and waiting, either. But I'm loathe to admit that I've learned as a soldier and a pilot that sometimes, that is doing something. Whether it's waiting for back up, formulating a plan, reserving my strength, or all of those things at once, getting impatient there can be difference between life and death. For you and the people you're trying to help.

That being said, we've got a bunch of people actually doing different things that could help. Not just now, but in the long run. I and various others have been working on sending drones through the rifts and fortifying them with kaiju parts to see if it makes a difference. Some are aiding what's left of LILITH's staff trying to get answers on how to cure this illness going around.

What can you do with the abilities you have?

Aahh... There's truth to what you're saying, far more than I'd normally care to admit. I always feel like a wasteful burden just plonked on my ass with no way of contributing to the rescue efforts.

It seems like everybody else has something they can do to make progress in either reconnaissance or people's health or research.... Meanwhile my skills aren't needed right now. There's nothing for me to slay.

Because that's pretty much all I'm good for. [He smiles, although it's rueful.] I'm not like most gods - I'm a war god by nature, who specializes in killing. No other magic or special abilities, sadly.

... See, too many people on this team are quick to devalue themselves that I have hard time believing anybody who says that shit!

But you just said it yourself! Your skills aren't needed right now. Once we get into a fight - and past experience plus what we've learned so far tell me that we are - a good handful of those people doing things now aren't going to be able to do much then. Are you going to look at them like they're burdens?

Jeez, it's like nobody understands what a team actually is!

Well, I can't help what I feel...!

But... no, definitely not. Nobody's a burden just because they can't fight. It's not something that's for everyone, after all. Some people have hands meant for healing, others have minds that are good for intellectual pursuits, and some people are simply civilians suited to living their own lives without getting involved in fights or war.

It's just... not all of us have worked much with teams before.
