poor hiyori, indeed. things always WERE lively when she was spending time with yato. she liked things lively, though. right now, it's not so bad. it keeps her mind off other things.
that he's outside in a TREE takes her back. pfft-! same old yato, sometimes. ]
Which tree are you in?
[ does she need to ask ]
no subject
CHOKE THAT CHICKENShe does not need to ask, for there at her window comes a tapping, courtesy of one godfly plastered to the glass as he struggles not to fall from the window sill. Perhaps he should've asked her to open it first...]
'yori, lemme in! Is slippery out here--!
[Total dumbass. Who seems to be strangely unbalanced for him, wobbling and tipping towards the right. One might think he was drunk if it wasn't just that his face is stuck to the glass.]
no subject
DOGGIES AND CHICKENS I SEEhiyori is at work, but she IS taking it easy. as best as she can for who she is, anyway. first, she jolts. sighs. then turns towards the one window in the break room at the hospital.
that answers which tree.
he's so ridiculous. she tries not to laugh at his silly face pressed to the glass. it'll leave a print when he's gone. a mark of the yatogami, stalk- er, watching over her.
once she sees his failing balance, she stands up from her seat and hurries over to figure out how to open the window. ]
You goof! Use the door or at least ask me to open it before you get here...!
[ finally, it's open and she grabs his clothes to pull him in so he doesn't go CAREENING away completely. ]
You're early... [ hiyori breathes, not used to yato visiting at this time. usually, it's around dinner. ]
no subject
TOP TWO FAVORITE ANIMALS YEPThis is her divine punishment for working when she should be resting! The Yatogami check-in call. At least he's predictable if not entirely sensible...
Like he has any room to talk. Honestly. Some people's boyfriends, huh?
Though once Hiyori gets the window open and yanks him in, he stumbles in with a pained yelp, almost going down on his right leg before regaining his balance enough to stumble forward a couple steps. Wincing, he turns a wry smile towards her.]
Ah, sorry, sorry. [Breathing slowly, he debates a moment, then looks away.]
Yeah, about that... [Give him a minute to get to the couch. Though it's more akin to a 'hobble' as he limps over and seats himself with a sigh, head tipped back against the cushion.] Promise me you won't get uppity, okay?
no subject
THAT'S IT...this isn't hard work!! just some documenting to catch up on. some clean up. basic, everyday chores. she can't stay still and locked up FOREVER.
flustered, she apologizes for pulling him in so roughly. explaining she didn't want him to fall and if he just uSEd THE DooR!! anyway. she's using her good arm to brace his elbow, searching his face in question and hovering as he gets to the loveseat against the wall. where she was just sitting.
hiyori slowly and carefully sits next to him, eyes never leaving him. ]
Huh...? [ uppity?? ... about what? ] Um, sure. I promise.
[ does she tho? ]
no subject
YEAH...If Yato had his way, she would be!! ...okay, not really. But she wouldn't be roaming around like this! She'd be in bed, doing remote work.
He manages a tight smile at her apology, acknowledging the wisdom of her words and promising to use the dumb, boooring door next time as they take a seat together. Though he's still wincing as he stretches his leg out in front of him, he lets an arm cover his face briefly before dropping it to his side and turning slightly to face her better with a clearly fretting expression.]
I need some pain killers. You can get those for me, right?
[His eyes meet hers, then quickly dart away to stare at a chart on the wall without really seeing it.]
no subject
DOUBT........but she needs to roam and use her body! else it'll get weak and she can't have that.
promise for a promise. only time will tell, sooner rather than later for hiyori, how long they'll uphold their word. something is bothering her - from that tight smile to yato still cringing a bit as he stretches to how he can't look at her.
what is going on? ]
Pain killers? [ oh. he's mortal. more mortal. right. ] Yeah, j-just a second. I have some over-the-counter ones somewhere... [ back up on her feet, she wanders over to some drawers and cabinets, pushing things aside until she finds a bottle of some generic analgesics. a few are dropped into her palm, she grabs a water bottle, and then she sits beside him again while offering what's in her hand. ]
Here. You should take it with food but have some water.
[ then, she waits. ]
no subject
PRESS F...Yeah, but--! ...no, okay, that's entirely fair. He doesn't want her losing muscle mass or strength because of his concern.
So far so good. No freak outs or fretting on her part. That's a positive. He's too tired to deal with a lecture, hence the attempt to head one off at the pass. Hiyori is a woman of her word, though. One reason he loves her so, so much. He can count on her for damn near anything. And more.]
Yeah... [While she rummages around, he lets himself sink into the loveseat and - shockingly for him - seems to almost doze in those few moments, startling when she sits back down next to him. Blinking rapidly, he groggily holds a hand out for the pills and takes the thing of water with a nod of gratitude.]
I'll get a snack in a bit. Thanks. [Down the hatch! No problem there, thankfully, though he sighs with relief and maybe a hint of disappointment as he passes the bottle back to her.] Kinda wish it was something stronger, but oh well.
.....
[Dammit. He's gonna have to explain, isn't he? Heaving out a heavy sigh, he starts plucking at the seat cushion, refusing to look at her.]
I-- I got hurt during that last mission. It bugs me now and then.
no subject
F'S IN CHAT, CHAT.it's not like yato's worry isn't well-founded, either. she - they went through a lot. every single one of them went through something. it's clear as her namesake.
better than yato thinks, hiyori can read him. she knows when he's equipped to handle a freakout or a lecture and now isn't that time. he's more pale than usual. exhausted. he's looked bad before but this is the accumulation of days of unrest.
she just hopes it's something she can help with. fortunately (not really), it is. she's a doctor. one on leave but one all the same. maybe she should let him sleep on the couch here and get him a snack, herself. maybe she will. ]
I can't get you anything stronger right now. Sorry, Yato. [ needs prescribing and she's not QUITE so morally gray she would steal narcotics for him. she takes the bottle he hands back and puts it aside.
hearing the reasoning makes her suck in a breath. why didn't he say sooner? because she was already going through a lot, that's why. she doesn't need to ask. instead, she feels emotional and touched and even a bit sad he would put aside his ails for her sake. ]
Yato... [ damn it. the sweet idiot. UGH. hiyori whispers his name, cupping his cheek and turning his face back towards her to kiss him gently. ]
Do you want me to look at it...?
no subject
OH...He never worries about pointless things, of course (this is a lie.) But when it comes to Hiyori, every worry is a worthy one.
He doesn't want her exhausting herself further with worry over him, which is why he hasn't said anything about his injury up til now. She needed time to heal, emotionally and physically. But seeing as how she's up and about, taking the news with relative ease... well. He feels a little more equipped to let her worry about him.
They take care of each other, after all. Even if it's only reassuring one another that they're doing fine, and time will heal their wounds. This though? Needs a little more than time.]
Damn. Oh well. Thanks anyway. [His pout of disappointment is clear, but he knows better than to push her on such an issue. She would never, and he wouldn't want her to.
Drawn back to looking at her, he winces slightly as his body shifts, moving his right leg. But all that seems to melt away when she kisses him, earning her a soft, relieved sigh.]
...yeah. If you would. Until I can get in and see one of LILITH's people. [Pulling back, he hikes up the right pants leg to reveal bandages covering most of his leg, which he then begins to unwrap.
And what's underneath is not a pretty sight: it looks like something massive bit him deeply, enough so that the wound would've been bleeding heavily. Which answer why the skin appears as though someone's taken a torch to him in order to cauterize the injury. A double whammy, as it were, and one that explains not only his unsteadiness on his feet, but his exhaustion as well. Something like this would take even a godly constitution time to heal, let alone a mortal one.
He gazes at his leg a moment before casting his eyes upon her face, biting his lip to watch her reaction. Fearful of her getting too upset and maybe making herself sick.]
no subject
he's not screaming in agony, but seeing the damage nearly changes her mind on the spot. she thinks about getting up, sprinting to the pharmacy or looking for a bag of hydrocodone to take away all that obvious pain. once again, yato simply
suffers through it. silently. without a word. until it gets so bad that he can't take it any longer.
hiyori, very professional, doesn't make a face. if anything, her eyes narrow down at the injury. something bit him, she could tell by the pattern of the puncture wounds. that's definitely a burn scarring, too. something like this would never do any damage to a god. it makes his mortality seem more mixed than blessing. if it ever was one.
not if he can get hurt like this.
when he looks at her, she's not too upset. probably just appropriately upset to see the person she loves the most have gone through something traumatic. as a doctor, it would take a lot more than this to make her sick either. much less one of his loved ones. ]
Whoever thought to cauterize was smart. [ immediately stopping the blood flow and minimizing the possibility of an infection. it might've saved him, depending on what bit him.
over the past few days, she hasn't noticed anything strange. it could be totally possible that yato made sure he never gave anything away, though. just like blight. ]
... But I'm sure it - [ hurt. she reaches forward, brushing his bangs and checking his forehead for temperature. just itching with the want to touch him, though with worry settling into the wrinkle in her brow. ]
I'll find a way to get some stronger medication. And antibiotics. [ ...
breathing in deep, she leans over and buries her face into his shoulder. hugging his arm with her good one and reciting something she was supposed to ask him as a nurse, mumbled into his clothes. ]
On a scale of one to ten, how bad is the pain...?
no subject
He's totally oblivious to how this is yet another example of him bearing things on his own, yet her scrutiny is enough to make him feel ashamed for being so inept as to have gotten wounded like this. He never should've been caught unaware like he had been. But he'd been desperate to get to her...
Now that she's safe and doing better, he doesn't hide his concern for her, biting his lip while she examines him. So composed... A true doctor. He shouldn't have expected any less. He manages a smile at the praise, chuckling softly.]
It was a joint effort. [Both he and Bakugo had had the exact same thought when he went down. Thankfully there was no discussion necessary. Unlike now, where his care will require more detailed efforts.]
...Hiyori... [It hurt like hell, is what he wants to say. But he refuses to admit as much, for both their sakes. Instead, he leans into her touch, eyes fluttering closed as her cooler hand meets his slightly warmer head. A mild fever. Not surprising, really. Nodding, he smiles.]
I'd appreciate that. Maybe you can nurse me back to health~ [Always teasing, making light of the situation. Yet he gladly welcomes her into his arms as she leans in, one hand coming up to massage her back in gentle circles. Chuckling, he hums thoughtfully.]
I'd say right now... probably an eight or a nine. Hurt's like a bitch, if you'll excuse me saying so.
no subject
ineptness isn't what caused this. bad luck? maybe. having some tunnel vision? sure. a lot was going on. you could say hiyori getting kidnapped in the first place was inept of her. though, she's sure yato wouldn't.
joint effort - makes one wonder who was on the other side, burning up the skin. the lesser evil. having a fever is a little evil, though no less concerning. she takes the cool bottle of water and presses it to his neck and along his forehead. a mild fever isn't surprising when you're in 9/10 pain. her stomach lurches. that much? can she do ANYTHING right now besides march to the pharmacy?
still, he acts like it's not a 9/10. he's acting like it's a 5, at worst. and while he may be joking, hiyori nods at the tease. ] I will.
I'll make sure you're as well-cared for as possible. [ with pain meds or whatever. leg baths. she's serious about this. she can take the time off, it's fine. personal nurse. ]
I've heard you say worse. [ hiyori scoffs but keeps her voice light. ]
It'll take a while before the generic brand kicks in, but it could take the edge off a little. Bring you down to a six. Until I prescribe you something stronger. [ plans are already forming in her mind. there was a prescription pad in an office. she can use that. should she use her signature or try and fake a doctor's? how likely is it that she'll get caught? how long has it been an eight or nine? knowing yato, since it happened.
she glances at the water she's still pressing along his throat and face. ]
If only purified water would work.
no subject
Bad luck, definitely. They were facing a damn shapeshifting kaiju of all things, one that was able to move where its mouth was, and after attacking it, it bit back. Literally.
One day he'll get her to meet Bakugo - the kid's almost become a substitute guide for him, scolding him when necessary, keeping him focused... All the while being a surly not-friend. It's enough to make him smile slightly as the cool water is pressed to his skin, drawing out a relieved sigh as his eyes flutter shut. He really does just want to rest, but there's so much to do...
Her response gets a wider smile, one that's not at all teasing. Hiyori makes everything better simply by being present.] Thanks..
I appreciate it, Hiyori. You really are the best... [Even if all she does is help keep a cool cloth over his head, that would be enough for him. Leaning against her a little bit, he slouches back against the seat.]
True. Me and my foul mouth. Heh. [Nodding, he lets his hand seek out hers, fingers intertwining together while they sit there.]
I'd appreciate that, no lie. It's not the burning sensation that's rough so much as the throbbing ache, y'know? [Which is why he's trying to keep off the damn thing. If he could elevate it, that might help a little bit. But he's not about to bother Hiyori at work for something so simple. He'll live with the pain a little longer, even if it is making his head swim.
Her comment about purified water gets a snort from him.]
If only. I think I prefer fighting ayakashi to kaiju. Less hassle, less complicated, and they don't bite as hard.
[With their linked hands, he tugs her closer, hoping she lean against him despite how hot his body feels. Definitely a fever, though whether it's low grade or high is hard to tell. He definitely feels warm, though, his hand is surprisingly dry for him. Not at all clammy.]
no subject
to be fair, nearly EVERYONE is scolding him where necessary. although, she knows how much yato misses yukine. hiyori feels it as much as him BUT ONE DAY. one day.
the bottle pauses for a second longer against his collar as memories flood back to her. she takes that second to wonder if yato's weird, dramatic displays of affection were something more in her youth the whole time. she takes it to shoot him a warmer look for saying she's the best and leaning into her, too.
him and his foul mouth. not the worst but up there. as soon as his hand finds hers, too, she squeezes. maybe harder than she meant to as all the worry and fear and sadness for his pain focuses on that touch. it's been non-stop. since the first trip to seoul.
a throbbing ache. don't worry, she's already grabbing his thigh to elevate it AND his leg up on the couch and her lap. they end up in a bit of a tangle but as soon as she has him properly situated, his hand is in hers again. ]
Me too. There was no way to really stop ayakashi completely, but I could tell you made a difference in people's lives when you and Yukine-kun cut them down. [ there's a furrow to her brow until he pulls her in and she's all but laid across his chest. from shoulder to hip, they touch. had anybody chosen to walk in, they'd see the intimate position. for once, she doesn't care about how it might look to others. she holds him close and tight, face pressed into his clothes and evening out her breath. ]
I hope what we're doing is making a difference.
[ if all their suffering was for nothing? ]
no subject
One day... They'll be together again, even if it takes another ten years for him. Thankfully when she returns home, she won't have so long to wait. N..Not that he wants her leaving anytime soon. Selfishly, he wants her to stay... here, with him.
It shouldn't be too hard for her to realize that yes, there was always more meaning to his flights of fancy when it came to romantic displays of affection - ones that weren't all that long ago for him. He knows. Maybe that's why he smiles to himself with the bottle against his skin.
He too, clings to her almost desperately, needily while they sit there together. Even if her grip is slightly painful, he welcomes the sensation in comparison to everything else he's been through lately. It's warm and reassuring, and reminds him that he's not alone, that he has her to help look after and love him.
Though she gets a soft oof as his leg is forcefully elevated in such an intimate way, causing his cheeks to pinken. Not that he's going to complain when soon after she's holding his hand again, helping him relax once more.]
Yeah... The result was more instantaneous compared to what we're doing here. ...but I have to believe we are making a difference, by keeping people safe and preventing the kaiju from outnumbering humanity.
[Wrapped up together, he lets his eyes close while just simply relishing the close contact. He's missed this ever since she disappeared and yet since having her back it never feels like quite enough. Like he can't make up for the lost time. So instead, he nuzzles against her, lips brushing over her cheek while his free hand brushes through her hair.]
...if nothing else, you save me, Hiyori. Every day. I manage to remain who I am thanks to you.
[Perhaps that sounds strange, but he means it. Even a god like him would become weary of such a hopeless fight without a light at the end of the tunnel, and she is his.]
no subject
given the choice, she wouldn't want to leave either. as if she could leave him behind. as if she could leave all the friends she's made behind. as if she could leave a dying world behind. if her fate is to simply be there for yato, to make sure he's at his best to save the world, she won't ask for more.
he isn't alone. not anymore. never again.
silent, hiyori nods. he's right. she has to believe that, too. maybe, she personally, isn't making a difference but everyone else can. keeping people safe and moderating the damage. especially after seoul -
tired from just the little work she's been doing, hiyori's eyes close too as she sighs. he's not the only one who missed it. who might need it as much as him. who can't get enough. almost like a new obsession. she's safest, here.
to hear that she saves him in return, too. like he's telling her that, yeah, maybe she is here not to fight in the traditional sense but to keep faith. help others fight and raise their spirits. not let themselves fall into depression and too much self-contempt. guilt.
a hand at your back, urging onward. ]
Mm. I can work with that... [ she lifts her head from his shoulder and flicks her attention all over his face before leaning in and kissing him. at the corner of his mouth. ]
no subject
A decision that would both warm his heart and break it, honestly. He doesn't want to be the cause of her missing out on living a normal life back home with her family again, for being the impetus for her to give up everything she is for the sake of one shoddy, dubious god. She deserves better than that. A proper home, a calm life, a family of her own... Things he probably won't be able to give her.
But for now, they can be each other's support. Their reason for being. There's nothing wrong with that.
It's better than basing it off how much help they can provide to this world. Otherwise they might slowly go crazy from trying too hard to make a difference. Sometimes it's not the huge wins that matter so much as the smaller successes each day.
Such as staying curled up together like this. Warming heart and body while he slowly heals from injuries both physical and mental. Going full out aramitama cost him so much energy and part of himself, it'll be some time before he fully recovers. And Hiyori's love and affection speeds up that process in a way that's almost tangible.
Turning his head, he nuzzles up against her, lips brushing over her cheek. Not initiating anything deep, but merely showing her how much he loves her. How much her presence means to him, now more than ever. Every day, she saves him a little more from the guilt and self-loathing that threatens to creep back up on him. If anyone is necessary in this world, it's her.]
Heh... I'm glad. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that being a fighter isn't the be-all and end-all to making the world a better place. It truly does take all manner of people. [Especially people who are compassionate and loving, like her. Proof of which he receives in the form of kisses that make him warm all over. Or maybe that's just the fever. Laughing softly, he returns the gesture with a smile.]
no subject
yato is much more than just a shoddy, dubious god. he's not even that. (when he's not feeling up people that aren't his girlfriend or getting so drunk he's trying to make money by kisses, anyway. idjit.) yato deserves those things, too. he has them back home with yukine, doesn't he? home, a routine life, a family. he's wrong about not being able to give her those things.
they're both recovering. all the more reason to stick together. help each other. yato's helped her so much when she was still in the hospital and out of it now, too. it's her turn. ]
There are different ways to fight. With your fists, with your words, with your presence. [ yato's so strong. being in so much pain and still able to laugh isn't easy. she knows. is the kaiju gone now? part of her wants to ask. as of yet, she hasn't questioned much about brasov besides what was necessary. other outsiders and the people are her priority - after seoul, more than ever. ]
With holding onto hope.
[ here, she tears up a little. that hasn't been easy either, holding onto hope, but she will. ]
... If you keep being the former, I'll be the latter.
no subject
He's definitely still questionable at point, it must be said. Although in truth that could apply to anybody, not just him. (Though he needs to be more aware of his costumes that have minds of their own and stop getting drunk in public and thinking "now would be a great time to make a little moolah." Idjit is right. Especially since he (stupidly) feels he can't provide Hiyori with anything a human girl needs and deserves. His father's influence still sinks its claws into him regularly, it seems.
Not that he'll object to being taken care of a bit by Hiyori. He does so love being doted on. He just wants to make sure she takes care of herself, too.]
Hehe, that's true. Even holding out hope is a way of fighting back against despair. [And hope is the thing Hiyori embodies best. His pure white, shining beacon. She was there for them even when they were barely friends, and now she's here for him constantly as lovers. He couldn't ask for more. Except perhaps another hug, which he does, squeezing her gently.]
Sounds fair. That'd make us even stronger together. A blade that both cuts and heals... I love you, Hiyori. [He's said it quite a bit since her rescue, but it's never enough. He needs her to know explicitly just how much she means to him.] Thank you for always being here...
no subject
what are the things he thinks a human girl needs? they'll have to broach that and figure it out. as far as she's concerned, she's happy with him. she was his friend when he was broke, hopeless, and full of secrets. she's his girlfriend now. he doesn't need to be rich or wildly successful. he only needs to be yato.
they can figure out the rest. taking care of each other.
at the back of her mind, yato's pain pricks at her. she should get that pain medication. she should do something. should she... return the favor he did for her? would that help? it sure as heck helped her.
maybe because he's said it so much, she almost misses it. almost. the three words ping at the Feel Good cells in her brain. aaah, yato loves her. ]
I love you. I want to be here. Especially when you need me, I'm here. [ because she loves him, too. so much. he's always on her mind but even more after this. if possible. remembering the cool bottle, she searches for it and then continues pressing it along his warm skin. ] But also whenever you want me.
[ if that's just to cuddle a bit on the staff couch. ]
... Should we both go back to base for rest?
no subject
Either way, he wants to make sure that she has everything she needs and wants. To make her the happiest girl in this world, too. Though that's going to be damn difficult with all this bullshit going on constantly.
Her little surge of happiness comes through to him like a soft, gentle wave, making him smile in spite of his aching leg, causing him to hold on tighter for a moment. These rings sure are useful. They don't even need to say anything to share what they're feeling. It's like their hearts beat as one.]
I know. You're always right where I need you, whenever I need you. It's like some inborn talent you have. And I appreciate it a lot... [Turning his head, he buries his face against her with a content sigh, shivering lightly as the bottle touches another overheated place.] Mmm... Want you all the time, though.
[He mumbles against her, kissing absently at her.]
Sounds good. A nap would probably be ideal. I can feel myself getting overheated again.
no subject
faith.
even then, hiyori's wants like those cute clothes and face care are so far behind one want that trumps most of them: her want to be with yato and loved by him. have him love only her. to spend their time together, to fall asleep in his arms, to have him drop by with dinner so they can share food. to discover how far his morality goes --
nono.
what hiyori wants is a partnership with him. sure, gifts now and then are nice but more important is trust. a companionship. a safe place to be - especially so with the bullshit going on. that they can come to each other like this and know they'll be taken care of. like his visit to her hospital room. like yato finding her here.
back when she was a teenager, she was always chasing him. largely thanks to her ayakashi nose. her "inborn talent." a breathless laugh escapes her before her cheeks start to get warm, too.
another thing they feel the same about. wanting each other all the time. ]
That would be the fever. [ disentangling their limbs, after placing a quick kiss on his cheek, she stands. ] I'm going to grab some antibiotics. [ and see if she can't get away with some stronger meds.
that's yato's need, right now, and it's her job to meet it. ] Wait here, okay? I'll just be a bit, then we'll go back together.
no subject
Thankfully he can grant her almost all her heart's desires regarding him, so long as he tries real hard to not get into trouble. That's still a learning process. Though his heart will always reside with her. She has it, wholly and completely. There's no other for him. Anything she'd ask of him, he'd give, piece by piece, until there's nothing of him left but an endless fountain of love.
If he can represent that safe place for her, then he'll be that, too. Shelter her from all the bad, horrifying things out there in this world and the next, protecting her just as he always has. Because she's done the same for him, too. It's the strength of their bond that enables them to be each other's savior no matter what they face.
And right now, she is his. Helping him take care of his leg, his fever... All he wants to do is crawl into bed with her and rest.
Sighing, he nods woozily. At least until she extracts herself, leaving him whining weakly even with the kiss. It might have been too hot, but it was so cozy...] Mmm 'kay. If you gotta.
[Falling back onto the loveseat, he drapes an arm over his face with a long sigh. Ugh, yeah, he definitely needs care right now...] Hurry back, alright...?
no subject
maybe
not right now. when he's sick? you won't hear her saying "no", in any case.
for his whine, she shoots him an apologetic look and nods. she does, she has to. as if she can let yato suffer like this. hiyori pushes her shorter hair out of her face, running her fingers through her bangs. it'll be quick. after working here for months, the whereabouts of almost everything aren't unknown to her.
it shouldn't be too weird for a nurse with a broken arm to want some stronger pain meds. she can do this. ]
I'll be as fast as I can. Promise. [ one more look at him and her resolve is bolstered. yeah, she's doing this. before leaving, she makes sure yato knows he has water. then, she turns and exits the break room.
in record time, she makes it to the pharmacy. she holds a notepad in hand, scribbling down yato's prescription, and hesitates before signing her name as indecipherable as possible. although the clerk gives her a funny look, they nod and gather the right meds for her.
yato only has to wait less than ten minutes before she's back, holding a baggie in her hand and out of breath. she approaches quickly, checking on him immediately. ] Hey. [ low and soft. ]
Ready to go? I have everything.
