it's just where how our world works comes into play. to make a very long story short, there are some beings like ereshkigal that are aren't exactly "alive" in the traditional sense. can't really make their own energy, or not enough to do all the cool shit for fighting. you can think of that energy as the concentrate of life itself, and there's some different ways to get it.

most efficient is what lingers in bodily fluids. so doesn't really have to be procreation. blood works too. but most people ain't into that.

and for what it's worth, don't think that whole system totally applies here. some of that juice is coming from elsewhere, otherwise they'd just fade away. LILITH if I had to guess but since I don't have my omniscience, couldn't tell you for sure

I suppose it is something like a ritual. Humans gather together, healers take their blood 👩‍⚕️💉, it is then used to preserve the life of injured humans. I believe there is a reward involved as well 🍪🧃.

Something similar may be arrangeable for your kind, it would be wise to keep as many allies in fighting shape as possible 👍.
