[The man shakes his head - as something comes to mind, and he chokes out:]
P-Please, I have- I have information, I can- I can give you everything, m-money, info, whatever...what-whatever you need-
[The begging desperation of a man who is at the edge of it all, who knows what is to come, and is fighting tooth and nail for even a glimmer of it. Vergilius has seen it all before. He could end this.]
[But he turns his gaze to Silco now - a quiet, unspoken question.]
[Does he need any of this?]
jesus christ this tag got out of hand 😶
Sure, money was always great, but he knew better than to sell someone out this early in the game, especially when he didn't have people, locations, product. None of that was going to be particularly useful other than in the very, very short term. Short enough that he likely wouldn't be able to use it.
Information, that was the actual offer on the table. Silco knew whom he was selling out to, and he could guess the why. The man's personal life and habits were fairly well known amongst the group he was working with, but it had always been taken care of — but not too taken care of — and so the new organization on the block had probably offered to do more.
Unwise, of course, that meant he could hit the next highest bidder with a touch less loyalty. Consistent payoffs were always better. Just enough to make him dependent. ]
You know...
[ His tone was thoughtful, he paused, and let the blackened eye tip to look at him. Head tipped so Osuke only got the one. It never blinked, but it bored into him. ]
Had you thought about that before you got caught, it would be a tempting offer. Here is the thing, however, I am an honest man. [ Now he turned, and spread his hands. ] I think my friend here is too. As honest men, I will be honest with you.
[ He crouched, to get on his level as he spoke, his voice lowered so only they three could hear. ]
If you gave me that information, I'd still have to have you killed. Oh, it would undo the damage you caused, but you and I both know how things work in this realm. There is no such thing as forgiveness, and there is one sin above all that I will never let slide. Betrayal.
[ For Vergilius, he just gestured, as if giving him the go ahead. He didn't move from his crouch, which probably meant he might be in the splash zone. ]
proud of silco for being this awful. also. decapitation
[What does that make Vergilius? Another spider? This sort of thing is beyond him - he's no planner, and his approach is as brutal as it is forceful, with no grace to be found. He's considered a monster, and he fits that role well, because he allows himself to sink his own head into the bloodbath time and time again. The guilt persists, but he moves on, regardless.]
[Not unlike a gaze in a box.]
[Silco says his part. Vergilius turns his head back towards the man - there's a terror in his eyes he has seen time and time again. That sensation right before death, that knowledge that nothing can be done. A dullness that stills the soul, even if its unwilling to go. Too bad.]
[It's over.]
[Vergilius raises his gladius and swings without much effort.]
[The headless body of Ozuke crumples to the floor. There's actually not much blood that splatters around them- the burning sword and the smell of cauterized flesh will give clues as to why - but that head is rolling over to the side of the bakery, mouth agape.]
[The Fixer moves back, one hand moving to brush through his bangs before his gaze fixes on Silco, with no betrayal of emotion. There's a slight stain of blood on his chin, but he ignores it.]
[Job well done.]
There we go.
no subject
Well. This was still fairly bad.
After a long moment, he finally stood, brushing the imaginary dust off of his pants as he looked around, surveying the rest of the room. Mostly, he was making sure they'd left no trace. Sure, there was probably a low likelihood of any authorities getting involved, but he didn't survive by assuming.
Seeing nothing left, he turned away from the head, and towards Vergilius. He paused, and pulled a kerchief out of his jacket, and offered it to him. ]
I do love watching a professional work. [ christ ] Now, I believe I owe you a drink, don't I?
no subject
[His eyes flit to the handkercheif, and there's a notable pause. He's been the type to wash his hands after a kill, but...]
[Well. It's offered. He takes it, wiping over the wet stain on his chin before he folds it lightly and hands it back.]
[Silco's compliment sounds like someone purring into his ear. In the end, that's what he is. A professional. He will do this now, and he will do it again.]
Flattery only takes you so far. [But he nods. A drink sounds good.] And you do. You know, you're lucky. Where I come from, I'd be paid top Ahn for a job like this. You're getting the best of me for practically nothing.
no subject
Where I come from, I'd pay it.
[ Recognizing their mutual limitation, but he'd be worth the pay, if he had it. ]
I suppose... [ He says, airily ] that I'd better buy you two drinks, then? Make up for what I'm lacking how I can.
[ He says it like there's an equal deal to be struck here, like it isn't just that Vergilius was giving it away, and Silco wasn't asking for it. As if he hadn't just done him a favor. ]
no subject
[Good going business with you, and all. Vergilius rolls his shoulders back in a mild little stretch, moving towards the exit.]
You're not lacking. But sure. Two drinks is adequate. They'd better be very good drinks. I'm a picky old man.
no subject
[ It's rhetorical, the question. He isn't quite sure how to take that, but he'll take it as a compliment all the same. ]
Don't worry, I used to run a club. My standard for drinks is at least just as high.
[ No it isn't, these were Zaunite drinks. ]
If they aren't to your liking, I'll owe you. How about that?
no subject
[Boogied out on the floor...]
[A little noise, not unlike a soundless huff of a laugh.]
Sure. And if that's the case, rest assured, I'll come to collect. You'd better be ready.
no subject
[ Please! Verg, could you actually imagine it? Silco????? That man would get beat to hell on the dance floor. ]
Rest assured, however, I'll be quite ready if you do.
[ sir? Sirs?? ] Though I would much prefer that we simply have drinks that we both enjoy, hm?
no subject
[A little pause - maybe that statement does also dance itself over a line. Or two. How odd, to wander into such relatively new territory. Malkuth - that was a regular part of it all, answering to her own bait. Here, it feels a little novel to throw something out and see what it brings in.]
I could go with that. So one has to ask. What drinks do you enjoy?
no subject
[ Vergilius having that out of pocket actually does startle him a little. ]
As for drinks, I'm a simple man. [ He is not. ] I prefer whiskey, and despite my taste in cigars — good whiskey.
no subject
[Heh.]
[Whiskey...sounds right. Silco himself just LOOKS like a whiskey man.]
The strong stuff. I suppose you have a tolerance.
no subject
I don't think there's anything we have where I am from that doesn't require a tolerance. [It's easier to talk about Zaun, than himself, but his phrasing leaves plenty of room to take a double meaning from. ] We are a hard people, by necessity. I'm sure it's not a surprise, is it?
[ A beat, and then: ] I can assure you I have drank some things that would make your toes curl. Whiskey is an easy drink comparatively.
no subject
Not a surprise at all. Though.... [A little nod of the head - now that's another thing to think about. Drinks to make the toes curl.] You got me curious about what kind of stuff hits harder than whiskey. Absinthe?
no subject
[ He says with a sigh that sounds dismissive. ]
No, more like some kind of back alley bottle that they won't tell you what's in them, but it's quite possible that there's either mushrooms or some sort of growth involved. Couple that with some river water and, well, whiskey seems tame by comparison.
[ Silco may seem stuffy now but his secret wild youth.... (Rattling my CAGE, fortiche...) ]
Then of course, there's what I make, but I don't drink it. Supposedly it packs a punch.
no subject
[Mushrooms. No, he could see that. Sometimes, you have to make do.]
Sounds like some stuff you get on the Backstreets. Sometimes...you can't get the good stuff, so you make better stuff.
[The last statement makes him blink though - what HE makes?]
Oh? Tell me. Hobby, or bussines?
no subject
[ Which, coupled with the kind of display just put on... Verg is a smart guy, he can put two and two together. ]
Some people [Silco ] would liken it to bottled power. It's a shame I can't bring it to the masses here. They could use a little control in their lives when it comes to to kaiju.
[ shimmer is designed to be effective on fucking cops not monsters ]
me like can i spell
[Now that makes his eyes widen a little, turning to put that lighthouse-like gaze upon him. Bottled...power?]
Power in what way? Permanent?
LMAO I did not see it 😌
[ It is but like he'd ever know. ]
No, the closest we may get are mechanical limbs powered by Shimmer. Most people injest, but it can only last so long.
[ Also if it was permanent how would he get addicts???? But he's wise enough not to say that. ]
It lasts long enough, of course. Makes us a little less of an easy target for an enforcer on a bad day. [ or when you need guards for your factories, or people who just want a little taste of something powerful... You know. Normal reasons. ]
no subject
[But no, a business couldn't be well run on something truly permanent, he supposes. Something...drinkable? It seems like it, given he brought it up with the alcohol question.]
Have you tried it yourself?
no subject
In a way.
[ Don't ask how, verg. You don't want to know. He rubbed his fingers together, remembering a time when he'd been able to dispense it by touch. Sometimes, he imagined he could still feel the bite of it against his skin. ]
Long before it was made for public consumption, of course.
no subject
Don't tell me you used yourself like a guinea pig, Silco.
no subject
Hardly. I had too much on the line to foolishly throw it away.
[ Revenge.. Besides, he had stupid teens to drink the experimental version instead.]
It was simply used for something else then. More... Therapeutic.
no subject
[That scar over Silco's eye, and the eye itself, as red as blood, lingers in his vision.]
Pain relief?
