[ well, that's quite the mental update. while ishmael isn't reeling from the download's sappy effects, she is in the mood to yap and gossip -- which is typically unlike her at all. and so, while they're all still waiting for the download to finish, she's got this to ask on their shared network. ]

Looks like this is going to take a while. And I know that most of us here were haunted by certain dreams a while back, me included. It's something I've already gone through back home so I'm not too bothered with it now, but I'm going to go ahead and ask anyway.

What are some of your happier memories?

That's probably easier said than done, though. You don't even have to think too far back and just share whatever made you happy since coming here. It's corny, sure, but we could definitely need some cheering up after all that on top of this horribly hot weather.

Of course, if you're too shy to share them to everyone in the class, I get it. I know I am. You can just tell me privately if you trust me that much, or you don't have to say anything at all and just read or react to everyone's contributions instead. Also if anyone's gonna come here to say shit like "Oh I'm not gonna share anything :/" then do us all a favor and not waste our time. Thanks. 👍

[ There are a lot of reasons she can think of as to why he doesn't remember. He said he didn't think he could actually love again after Megumi's mother passed away. Remembering the times they spent together must have been painful. Were they too painful to even think about? Did he throw himself into his work so he barely spent time with him afterward? Does even looking at Megumi now remind him of her?

She wants to ask, but it feels like she shouldn't. ]

_{[ He doesn’t say anything in response, but he does try to rack his brain. A memory does pop in his mind because as a father, it is hard to get something like this out of his head. The details are fuzzy, but the memory is colorful. That’s because Yor can see how he views the world though this memory— with his hypersensitive vision that can see so many colors and even specks of dust. Portions of it are blurry because he can’t remember.

A woman, looking exhausted, lies in a hospital bed, but in her arms she cradles a tiny child who has finally fallen asleep. The memory begins when Toji’s eyes open alongside her hospital bed frame.

“Megumi is a good name, Toji,” the woman says, smiling warmly at him. “You haven’t gotten a chance to hold him yet. Are you ready to?”

There is some reluctance and Toji looks down at his scuffed hands that has probably seen better days. There’s no response, but before he knows it, a tiny, swaddled baby is placed in his arms. The mother giggles and settles her hand along his bicep.

“Don’t look so worried, you’re doing just fine.. holding him just like that.”

The memory seems a bit clearer and Yor can see Megumi’s sleeping, tiny face. The mother shifts into Toji’s field of vision and gives him a kiss on the temple.

“I couldn’t be happier. I love you two so, so much.”

The memory ends there. ]}

that feels so long ago

[ However fuzzy the outside corners of the memory, the people within it stand out to her vividly. A woman whose beauty is evident in her stunning smile, warmth radiating from her as if she's a small sun. A baby so small but that she knows will one day be Megumi, the very image of his father. It's a small pocket of time so intimate and gentle she feels guilty for peeking in, yet the quiet joy of two parents welcoming their newborn to the world stirs deep into her very soul and grips her heart in a tight squeeze.

Yor's not aware she's been holding her breath until the memory ends. She's grateful she's alone at the moment so nobody else can hear the strange gasp of air and subsequent sniffle she makes as she dabs at her eyes. ]

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful memory with me, Toji.
