▶ NETWORK MINGLE #1

▷ NETWORK MINGLE #1

▶ TFLN.

Although ocular & brain implants are the means of communication nowadays, a messenger service still exists in this world. Mostly everyone uses LINE nowadays even if the need for cellular phones is null. Characters may have already recognized the interface to be somewhat familiar with the similar shade of green and same old slogan.

It happens the first time, and several times throughout the week as your character goes about their new routine. The sound of machine-like whirring, deep within their cranium, like a computer that’s in the midst of processing some new information. Then, there’s the familiar ping of a new public message, and whatever you were thinking about at that point of time will be plastered on the network, for all to read and react to. Daydreaming about ponies at work? Having a fun night out at a club? Regretting said night out at the club? Falling into a deep depression about how your life has turned out so far? It doesn’t matter when or where, because the system doesn’t discriminate. You’ll soon find the thoughts you were having during those moments posted on the network and it won’t be possible to delete.

"The system is updating …

...

The system is updating … "

That’s the only explanation SYNTHIA will give when prodded or asked to take down a post. She’s not too helpful at this moment.

"Yeah, sorry. She gets temperamental like that sometimes. I can’t really do anything about your business being out there. But it’s pretty funny, right? Looks like you got hella wrecked last night. Good for you."

Welcome to our first Network Mingle! This is a TFLN-inspired mingle that’s been tweaked to make it completely canon to the game. Due to a glitch in the system, random thoughts that characters might be having throughout the week will be registered as network posts and posted in public for all to see and respond to. This can happen at any time as they wander around the main base or different Neo Tokyo locations!

HOW TO PLAY:
1. Write out prompts (example below) for others to respond to. These can be thoughts they’re having in bed, at work, while intoxicated or what-have-you. You can look up shower thoughts or TFLN as inspiration, but remember that this will be game canon so it has to be written in your character’s voice.
2. Go around and respond to others!
3. ???
4. PROFIT!

Participation in this mingle isn’t obligatory, of course. If you don’t want your character to participate, you can simply assume the glitch did not affect them.

We also have a code below for fun, but please don't feel pressured to use it. As always, a regular text thread works out just fine! Most importantly, have fun!

(Please remember to put warnings for NSFW/triggering content in the subject header.)

Well, to each their own. I'm not going to judge your taste.

Classic lit. has a lot of the same romance tropes as the Icha Icha series—though I don't know what qualifies as "classic" to your world. What made you gravitate to fantasy/adv.?

I need poetic writing, a sense of recurring themes throughout the story, some decent worldbuilding, I don't know, and make me feel things! Literature is meant to stimulate your mind and transform you!

I've loved it since I was a boy. I didn't have much of a chance to explore the world outside of our estate and the spaces were were vacationing, and whenever I felt lonely, I knew I could crack a book open and be transported into another reality. I loved the ones that took place in a world where magic worked differently, but you'd get really creative stories set in Exandria's past. And the characters...wow. They were an inspiration to me.

(it's foreign to hear something so sweet and so longing from another man. their only emotional exchanges are managed through battle, at the cusp of death, or over drinks, delirious. sentimentality is anathematized. admitting weakness is, too.

so, for kakashi, who is still acclimating to budding tenderness that's begun to bloom with age, reading about taryon's past is—nice. there's no better or worse word to describe how it makes him feel. it's nice, and it's welcome.
)

What you're describing is escapism. I understand that a bit.

And what I'm gathering is that you're into flowery stuff. More romance than realism. A hero's journey with trials to overcome and romances to experience. Well, Icha Icha Paradise is all of that. Yeah, it's a little simpler. It doesn't have that wanderlust. And it's adult in nature. But it has heart and it's meant to be enjoyed in several different ways; the author who wrote it is something.

You can pick up a little of his life in his writing. It's based on his experiences.

Regardless if you decide to read it or not, I'm interested in Exandria. You should tell me your own story about it sometime.

[Vox Machina wasn't fond of Taryon until he opened up and became emotional - and he's not a reserved man. Sharing his deepest thoughts comes naturally.]

Reality can learn a bit from the ideals of romance. Why should we accept everything that's happening if a possibility of a better life is within our grasp?

Look, this style is not for me. I get that it's some people's dream, but I really don't want to see the explicit parts while I'm texting my friends.

The sad thing is...I was writing a book back home. All the little details, gone. Whatever diary I have here won't be the same thing.

That's fair. And your opinion. But you know I didn't actively painstakingly type that out for you all to see, right...? I was reading and it happened without my knowledge. Unfortunately, you're going to have to deal with it and move on.

Could you bring your ideas back home? They may serve as inspiration—derived from your own adventure.

You and I think on the same wavelength, Chaff. I'm writing down everything that's happened to me thus far in a journal and collecting mementos to to keep track of where I've been. The hard part will be explaining the technology to my friends back home, but I think I could fudge a few details and turn it into a bizarre sort of magic not found on Exandria.

There's plenty of stories about a hero that's sucked into another reality. No one will question if the worldbuilding isn't completely fleshed out. They're here for the gripping tales of adaptation and perseverance.

Fudging a few details... Yeah, that's about right. I dread giving a full report of what I've seen here...

( cringes at the thought of the interrogation he's going to be subject to... )

The most effective lies are the simple ones. If that helps.

Will they even believe you? You make it sound like you've done this before.

I've gone to other places of existence, so what's another world? Plus, I can share my knowledge of electricity with my friends, and then they'll understand that I only could have learned this from an expert.
kawarimi: (pic#16846253)

[personal profile] kawarimi 2023-12-30 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
What's another world? A pretty big deal, that's what...

I guess that's compelling enough evidence. You'll be the father of invention if you return knowing how to construct all of this. However, with rushed progress comes quite a few problems.
likemybooks: Taryon leaning on his elbow (boastful)

[personal profile] likemybooks 2023-12-30 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm aware there may be problems. My dear friend often worries about what troubles his inventions will create, but if I can get the science out there, the actual updates to our society will gradually follow on its own terms.

Sounds like you've got a plan to keep it under control, then. We don't want your world calling on all of us next, hm?

( please spare us, matt mercer )

[personal profile] likemybooks 2023-12-31 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
I think we would avoid asking for help from other planes of existence. It's too risky when you can easily summon a demon or a kraken or an archfey.
But we'll be fine.

[personal profile] likemybooks 2024-01-01 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
You mean you don't know what a kraken is?
Well, it's a legendary creature, so no wonder.
But it's a squid monster that lives in the Plane of Water and really has it out for people encroaching on its territory. My friends and I barely escaped with our lives when we encountered it, but it might not be too bad to handle if it was on land.
kawarimi: (pic#16846192)

[personal profile] kawarimi 2024-01-03 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'm imagining the tentacles mowing down entire neighbourhoods as the squid tries to find its way back to the water. I don't know if its panic would save us the collateral.

Seems like it'd be better off in the water—for it and us.

Let's just hope one doesn't show up at all.
