Notice of Examination Period: May 13-14

On May 13-14, students will be undergoing written exams to assess their level of knowledge in certain subjects. The exams will be taking place in a cordoned section of the cafeteria during this period. Please refrain from entering the cafeteria if unnecessary, and keep noise levels to a minimum. There will be no restrictions during lunch period.

Below is the schedule of exams; plan your trips accordingly.


May 13
8:00-9:30 AM: Mathematics - Arithmetic, Geometry, Trigonometry, Algebra
10:00-11:30 AM: Mathematics - Statistics & Probability
1:30-3:00 PM: Mathematics - Calculus
3:30-5:00 PM: Economics

May 14
8:00-9:30 AM: Physics
10:00-11:30 AM: Chemistry
1:30-3:00 PM: Biology
3:30-5:00 PM: Environmental Sciences


These exams are diagnostic tests meant to inform further learning. Should you have an interest in educating yourself, direct your inquiries to me. The cut-off for requesting participation in these exams is 8 PM tonight.

At this level, the humanities are under my purview as well, but they require cultural and historical context that I do not have to teach them in a meaningful way. Thus I have decided not to offer these courses to my students.

Are you not worried that physics or the like might be different between them, as well?

I have yet to discover any evidence that suggests that we are in a universe different from the one I know, and across the vast cosmos of what is known, the fundamental forces have remained constant. I have additionally looked at the textbooks offered on this world. They are consistent with what I know.

Does this satisfy your concern?

Isn't the thought of string theory that any separate decision will create an alternate universe?

One would assume a place so different is in fact one, in that case; else your future might be awfully different.

Of course, this is all just conjecture.

You assume a narrow view of my experience. Dying planets like this one are not unfamiliar to me. In the vast cosmos, I have seen countless planets suffering from ecological collapse, sudden disaster or external invasions. Why hypothesize of an alternate universe, which cannot be empirically disproven, when a simpler explanation—that I have been brought into a section of the universe that is not connected to Akivili's star rail network and is therefore outside the region of the universe known to me—would suffice?

Before I consider the possibility of an alternate universe, that hypothesis must first be disproven.

I see, so your own experiences shape that as well then. Where I'm from alternate universes would be considered perhaps more likely an explanation; we don't have intergalactic travel, or knowledge of any other worlds out there.

Unless you count being here, but... To me, this place? Neo Tokyo? Seems like a version of the city I'm from: Tokyo.

The rest of the world seems to match up quite the same.

Curious. There are a few possible explanations that do not involve alternate universes, but neither will I discard that possibility.

Regardless, it remains that the axioms of mathematics and the fundamental forces of physics do not differ from what I know. Therefore, there will be no issue with my lessons.
