VIDEO | @CHAINSMOKER

( this is what you wanted to be greeted with when opening the network, right? a woman sat on an unmade bed with her legs crossed ankle over knee, ashtray full on a bedside table, looking about as enthused as a rock as she's so very clearly scrolls through some searches. )

So, video games.

( great opening line. didn't even introduce herself. )

I get what they are from looking it up, but what's the point in some of these? PowerWash Simulator? Farming Simulator 56? American Truck Simulator? You could just go outside and do some of this.

( is she smoking inside her bedroom? also yes. sorry if that gets into the vents, redemption team. )

... I also need suggestions for games. And no, I don't have experience in it which means I don't have enough to make a preference with.

No, their kingdom fell a long time ago.

We explored its ruins last month. Honestly, I was pretty surprised too. The way depictions of those ducks were everywhere... It feels like they were treated more like gods than kings.

[ She's just grimacing lightly. ]

Even though I said it isn't really my thing?

[ Fern moves like someone who isn't entirely at ease in her surroundings (she isn't) for her part, her arms stiffly swinging at her sides, each step measured and cautious. ]

Well...

[ She looks a bit thoughtful at that question. ]

...No, I don't think I have an interest in such things. But my teacher would. There are some monsters that leave something behind, and she always seems interested in those for some reason...

What about you, Miss Tao?

That part exactly, yes.

In a video game, of course.

[ Aki wants to say 'I'm too old for it', but... He's barely in his 20s. ]

Some of the technology is worthwhile, but a lot of it just seems to be pointless, or over the top.

[ Ah, that's interesting... Studying the enemy to aid in the efforts to eliminate them... When Tao puts it like that, it does remind Fern of something. ]

It's not quite the same, but... that's how some spells were developed, where I'm from. Mages studied demons' magic and then adapted them for our use... and now, we use them to kill monsters. [ A beat. ] That's a very pragmatic way of looking at it, Miss Tao.

[ Also, walking them through the recreation area... Fern has no idea what any of the things in here are, but maybe Tao does? So she asks: ]

By the way... Do you know what the machines in here do...? I did see someone use the machine for running in place, but...

It is possible they went extinct because of the kaijus.

[ Sad, really. She wishes she could have met one in the flesh.

... Well, in the feathers, rather. ]

It is sad to think those ruins may be all that's left of them.

[ tao, is it any consolation that you're not as much of a boomer as other people here? at least you're a sexy boomer idk ]

Cozy games are games that are easy on the eyes and on the brain. There's no need for reflexes and being good at aiming with a mouse. All games require mindless clicking to some degree, but cozy games like Stardew Valley and The Sims can be relaxing.

[ unless you're being overly ambitious with your sims and trying to do challenges, or flat out trying to kill as many sims as you can..... ]

I, myself, [ a hand is splayed across her chest; a poor attempt at being modest. if she sounds like a know-it-all, it's because she is. ] prefer classics like StarCraft. It's not for the impatient, though. There's a steep learning curve. For beginners, I would suggest Smash Bros, Animal Crossing, Overcooked if you want to play with other people.

Yeah, exactly. So it's just easier (and less expensive) for those who are simply curious to get a hint of what it's like to do something through playing an easy simulator of it rather than actually doing it for real.
