[He normally doesn't bother with network posts. But this was a fairly long time in coming.]

Who here knows about painkillers, anesthetics, or other analgesic drugs?

Most of us have gone through surgery to get additional implants or modifications, or know someone who has, and every fucking time it's the same damn story: "This won't be done with any anesthetics as it's an elective procedure and LILITH is saving anesthetic drugs for life-saving medical procedures."

That's bullshit.

If they're cutting into us to do surgery, it's a damn life-saving medical procedure because we're the ones saving their fucking lives! The least they can do is knock our asses out or numb it before digging in and shoving more crap into our bodies! It's odd as hell a place with this much technological advancements doesn't have a way to create or access a steady supply of painkillers, so it's probably just not on their priority list.

I'm not a botanist or a chemist, but I know medical pain relievers started with plants before it became chemicals derived from them. Coca, thyme, clove, poppies, and curare are some of the original bases. I'm leaving the city next week to try to locate some of these in the wild and bring them back for cultivation. If you want to come with me, meet me in front of the base at dawn next Tuesday.

In the meantime, if anyone has knowledge about this, share it. Just cause they won't help in this doesn't mean we can't.

[ooc: for the record, i'm no botanist, chemist, or medical practitioner myself, but i'm happy to do some research if we wanna go down some kind of rabbit hole with this. feel free to mingle and interact further to share information or ideas if you like. hypothetically, if this succeeds, it would make future reward surgeries less burdensome on the outsiders... unless LILITH's just doing the pain on purpose.]

but he won't think denji stupid for worrying. might growl about the lack of trust in his skills... it's human to worry. bakugou worries too, even if he won't say it. but he chooses to believe in his friends' strength to keep those heroic promises.

[he knows denji isn't like him in a lot of ways and that's fine. he likes denji for being denji, even if the other boy's growing and maturing. and while they partner on a lot of things, bakugou's not going to demand his boyfriend suddenly find the same drive he has for sticking it to LILITH and being a hero.

denji's allowed to kick back and enjoy his bag of chips while other people tromp around looking for doping plants if he wants.]

indeed, they're not alike in that aspect. he didn't care enough to go above and beyond to help others but he knew this was a part of bakugou he had to accept and learn to support him with. ]

maybe not the kind-soft tone, but it's more a quiet, frustrated admission that begets his concern for other people. even if he often pretends he couldn't give a shit (and usually doesn't). but these people, their allies, are doing their best here. if he can help make that easier on them, shouldn't he at least try?

[ lazing around = self-care. you know? it happens when your body has been going through constant anxiety, stress, ready to throw hands and guard up etc. — you'll find yourself craving those slow, calm nights so you can give yourself a breather. bakugou joining him will make him feel a lot better, but he will never pressure him to do something he's not into.

[that's what sleep and rest are for, along with some medical aid if he needs it. bakugou puts his body through a lot, both in training and studying, also working and learning. he's not immune to taking a break, sometimes resting on his bed with a pair of headphones, listening to music while reading a book or wandering the internet for a little bit. but it's usually on his time and wants rather than getting hauled down to do so.

still... denji has some boyfriend rights, so if he can handle a bit of growling and wriggling, he'll get the results he wants. might end up fighting over the proverbial remote on what to do. because bakugou does want to make denji feel good.

look, he'll make up the dawn wake-up call later. probably give denji a dinner request or even that lazy evening. having the half-devil with him on the excursion will help. denji's always managed to make bakugou feel better in his own special way.]

that's the reason it's there.

[duh. bakugou thought the training simulator was awesome and regularly tries to get the top score or best his own records. but when that other text comes by, there's a slight smirk on his side.]

plus, against all odds, denji found people he cares about here ... and he wants to protect them all. maybe if he tried hard enough, this time he won't fail and he'd be able to keep them safe. maybe. ]

[bakugou's not going to make it obvious, dammit! denji's going to have to figure it out over time when he starts to realize why he sometimes gets away with things the blonde doesn't let other people get away with. if he's savvy enough to realize it. bakugou hasn't done the dating thing, but he has had companions that get some... permission. like kirishima back home, who ended up with the semi-unique permission to get in bakugou's physical space without getting roared at each time.

look, he is proud of him. denji's come a long way from the dazed boy with fucked-up priorities in the locker room.]

you're not just getting stronger.

[denji's getting better in plenty of areas. from cooking to cleaning (despite his reluctance) to police work. bakugou hasn't tried to really force denji to share his priorities when dealing with people, but he's given comments if he feels it necessary. denji doing this for himself though, not because bakugou asked him, is one of the reasons he's proud of him. knowing your own weakness and working to address it is tough. but necessary.

protecting the people he cares about is a massive reason for bakugou's continued training and improvement. just not gonna admit it to anyone's face...]

[ it's amazing what a 'healthy' environment can do to someone, huh? even though he could never really have a normal life, even here in this city, but it was a lot easier to pretend when he's given a breather and not get bombarded with one stab to the gut and another. it didn't mean denji is healed, happy and thriving - he's still as broken and fucked up. ]

[there's no such thing as a 'normal' life for anyone. only what each person themselves view as "normal" for themself compared to those around them. but there is such a thing as a 'healthy' environment that tries to do good by people. societies should work towards that, something bakugo has found conflict with regarding the hero society. he grew up thinking it was amazing and perfect, but after a year at u.a. and his experiences there, had to come face to face with reality and ugly truths about it.

is this environment 'healthy' and can people live 'normal' lives here? ... who knows. the outsiders can at least try to make what they're dealing with 'better' before the inevitably leave. and perhaps at the same time, people who are broken and fucked up can get some repairs and unfuck some pieces.]

[that he would support him, be there for him, never abandon him. bakugo doesn't make those promises lightly. denji's decided to make good with what he has here, limited time or not, and he's proud of him for that. bakugo dug his heels in the first two months and refused to consider anything about this "good" - jaded over the kidnapping.

but over time, seeing other outsiders and friends take to the life and decide to make the best of it... it changed bakugo's mind too. denji is one of those people. he's helped the blonde adjust and accept this whether the half-devil knows it or not.]
