@Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight --- [text]
[He normally doesn't bother with network posts. But this was a fairly long time in coming.]
Who here knows about painkillers, anesthetics, or other analgesic drugs?
Most of us have gone through surgery to get additional implants or modifications, or know someone who has, and every fucking time it's the same damn story: "This won't be done with any anesthetics as it's an elective procedure and LILITH is saving anesthetic drugs for life-saving medical procedures."
That's bullshit.
If they're cutting into us to do surgery, it's a damn life-saving medical procedure because we're the ones saving their fucking lives! The least they can do is knock our asses out or numb it before digging in and shoving more crap into our bodies! It's odd as hell a place with this much technological advancements doesn't have a way to create or access a steady supply of painkillers, so it's probably just not on their priority list.
I'm not a botanist or a chemist, but I know medical pain relievers started with plants before it became chemicals derived from them. Coca, thyme, clove, poppies, and curare are some of the original bases. I'm leaving the city next week to try to locate some of these in the wild and bring them back for cultivation. If you want to come with me, meet me in front of the base at dawn next Tuesday.
In the meantime, if anyone has knowledge about this, share it. Just cause they won't help in this doesn't mean we can't.
[ooc: for the record, i'm no botanist, chemist, or medical practitioner myself, but i'm happy to do some research if we wanna go down some kind of rabbit hole with this. feel free to mingle and interact further to share information or ideas if you like. hypothetically, if this succeeds, it would make future reward surgeries less burdensome on the outsiders... unless LILITH's just doing the pain on purpose.]

[Why you... LILITH could consider them expendable enough not to care.]
Remind me to shoot a pod down your throat when I find something.
no subject
Yes? Clearly they are prioritizing the extermination of kaiju and saving humanity. I doubt that creating anesthesia to make life easier for its Outsiders is anywhere in their list of priorities - or if it is, it'd be in the lower rung.
no subject
all that view does is make his point stand even harder.]
THAT'S WHAT I SAID, DAMMIT!!
Can you read?!
[If LILITH won't, then nothing's stopping them from doing it!]
no subject
You're also going to account for the cost of the laboratory you'll need to rent, people who can keep churning these out (because the Outsider that you might ask to make these still has a life, you know), and other miscellaneous fees on top of it. I know you're just spitballing, but I'm also expecting that you already have an idea by now on how to handle all of that once you finally get that ball rolling. Unless you've been sitting on a mountain of KRYPTOS as we speak?
no subject
[This is very much a work in progress, woman! Sometimes he really misses having a phone to throttle!]
If LILITH's issue is lack of resources, and we find those fucking resources, they can make more of the medicine! It's not like they don't HAVE anesthetics; they're just holding them back. They can stockpile an Outsider-only vault of this shit for all I fucking care!
[Provided they find anything.]
Che! Tokyo Disney's sitting on top of a fucking chimera laboratory. Biological experimentation. If LILITH wants us to be in top shape, and we provide them the ingredients, they can spare some damn medical staff to finish the effort. Hell, I'll learn how to do it myself if they'll teach me!
[And worst comes to worst, they look up online how to make cocaine and opium from the plants, then dope up like morons the next time they go in for surgery. One hit isn't enough to get someone addicted.
And you shouldn't be having enough surgeries to GET addicted!]
no subject
Good luck with that, truly.
[ these heroic types are so annoying... it's like talking to a damn wall. she DID not miss talking to don quixote for this reason. ]
no subject
[he's gonna be stubborn about this. hero types are known for that. giving up isn't in his activity book.]
You can thank me later if you use it.
no subject
I mean, I wouldn't say no to it, but I was already fine without it when I first got my surgery a while back.
[ yeah. "fine". ]
no subject
Bullshit. You were as "fine" as anyone else jerking around on that table like a fucking zombie.
no subject
[ sometimes you just die an innumerable gruesome deaths that you don't give a fuck anymore. ]
And... I wasn't alone when I got those augmentations. I found some comfort in that as we suffered together in the aftermath. And I'd do it again if another augment catches my interest.
no subject
[none of them have died from the surgery. if "pain" was the only issue, he'd throw it over his shoulder. it's the fact there doesn't HAVE to be pain. but there's a reason LILITH decides there should be.
it's that burden he's bucking, whether they like it or not.]
We've got plenty of healers for after the surgery.
no subject
Would've been nice to know that sooner.
It's too late now, though. I'm used to it. Honestly, it'd freak me out more if it were that easy to make the process of healing that much painless. There has to be some sort of catch.
no subject
What the hell? You know there's a healing implant, right?
no subject
no subject
None that I know of.
no subject
That does make sense. LILITH needs fighters more than anything. But you'd think they can get someone who'd have at least some medical experience on the field just so you won't have to rally for something like this.
no subject
[Some with powers, some with tech, some with summons.]
I don't trust them sticking more of their tech in our bodies to power us up.
no subject
no subject
[Replacing part of your body with someone else's tech is never going to sit well with him. Because who the fuck knows what's left behind... waiting.]
no subject
I know LILITH may be incompetent on certain aspects, but they'd know better than to lose even more trust with the people they just plucked out of nowhere. Aren't augmentations and prostheses a thing where you're from?
no subject
[Does he have to reminder her about the fucking maid costume fiasco?]
If they know that, then they can do us a fucking favor and numb our asses before cutting us open, dammit!
OF COURSE THEY'RE A THING!!
no subject
[ though, maybe it's because ishmael is used to having her thoughts read by her manager that she's very meh about it. imagine working for companies that respect you as a human being lmao ]
You act like they aren't common where you're from, though. They're supposed to be painful and imperfect to have at first. The sooner you get over the fact that the future isn't as bright and efficient as you originally think, the better.
no subject
[They put that crap in their heads and arms without their permission in the first place, which is even worse than offering upgrades without painkillers.]
The prosthetics from my world aren't as high tech as this.
It's not supposed to be painful, idiot! That's a natural side effect, but it doesn't have to be dismissed. Surgery's done while the area is numbed or you're knocked out, and there are medicines to help with the aches and phantom pains later.
Pull that stick out of your ass and stop pretending everything has to be as shit as you think!
no subject
And for the record, I'm not pretending. I'm being serious here about clenching your teeth and take whatever they give to you no matter how shitty things get. What, you want to be coddled that badly just because your world's a little better than this one? That just because your world had access to the good stuff that you automatically think that you can just go out there and find a cure because you're that special where you came from while thinking the people who lived here for years didn't even try?
Get real. Not everyone's that fortunate.
[ she's not responding after this. she's said her piece. ]
no subject
This isn't about tolerating pain, you idiot! It's about making the current process better. Whether or not these people already tried doesn't matter; we can fucking try again. There's a difference between enduring something now because you need to, and giving up forever because you're too weak and pathetic to improve.
If you want to let them carve you up without painkillers, go for it! Rip apart and die in agony for all I care!
But don't force others to wallow in your bitterness cause you're conditioned it'll never change.
