okay, so, there's going to be a video dropped in on here. it's just of some of the feral cats by the hot springs rolling around, but their ears flick up towards the video's source after a moment and dart off; there's a soft, disappointed sigh before it ends. ]

Is there any way to befriend these furballs? They're sooooooo cute, but they keep running away when I try! ╥﹏╥ And I've tried food before anyone asks, they just don't seem to trust me too much... (ﾉ´ｰ`)ﾉ

So! I picked up a camera, and I've been taking pictures of a lot of things... they're all pretty amateurish, I guess? But it's been really fun too! [ thanks march ] Has anyone else picked up photography as a hobby? What do you take pictures of? Maybe we could make a group of it?

[ she sure is excited. to meet people and do things. anyway, last up is... malkuth's really working out what she likes best (so far, it's text, she likes the faces she can insert), and this is including putting out a hologram of herself: she's 163cm, or 5'4" those off the metric system, and she's wearing just the basic outfit of some pants and a longer sleeved shirt for the cold.

... this one she won't know if she likes actually but that's fine! that's fine. she'll learn. we'll all learn. replacing the book she might have held tight in her hand is, in fact, a disposable camera she'd bought with most of the money given to her, and the hologram makes similar motions as she takes pictures of her surroundings. ]

Actually, I could use a new hobby or two in general... You could say work really ate up my time, so I never really had any to spare for things like that. Any recs? Oh, you can reply however you want, I'll match!

When you put it like that, I guess they are pretty docile in comparison. ... but, they still seem to make people go insane. [ he sees a lot of people fawning after them, after all. ]

As long as they're not driving people to killing one another for the chance to pet them, they're perfectly fine.

Then we'll have to work out the proper procedures in order to deal with them, as well as those who lose their minds. The latter has historically been to kill them, but I think removing them from the cause of their insanity should be enough to break the spell cast over their hapless minds.

For the former, it would be more of a matter of ensuring timetables for when someone can and can't work with the animals in question, or what they've worked with thus far. If we spread out the load among enough people and make sure there's no extra time spent with the causes of insanity, then we'll be able to keep more people safe. It isn't perfect, but it's doable.

Sorry, old habits die hard. We couldn't kill the Abnormalities we worked with -- company assets and all, and it wasn't easy anyway -- but we could handle the people that were affected by them. At most, we were able to suppress the Abnormalities and bring them back to their containers.

So it's a mental state that people could return from? Are Abnormalities what you call these creature? [ so they were basically monsters? ... that were kept in cages by a company? this sounded kind of shady, but who was he to judge. ]

It's not like I made you believe it. You took it seriously all on your own.

Yes to both! It's a little complicated the more in depth you get, but that's the basics. An employee would be sent to work with an Abnormality, and depending on the kind of work they performed (there were four types of interactions they could perform) the Abnormality would react in different ways. Sometimes they'd even grant a boon to the employee that worked with them, but the Abnormalities tended to just stay neutral as long as they were paid the right amount of attention and the employees interacted with them the way they should have.

Sounds complicated, right? I wrote up a whole manual for my team to follow back then!

[ ... but it's not touching on the worse parts of the job. it isn't anyone's business really, and definitely not "getting to know you" conversation, but it still sours her mood a bit. just at herself. ]

Of course I did! Why would I ever think that you'd lie to me? There's no benefit to lying to someone you don't know.

Has anyone ever warned you not to be so trusting? [ all things considered, he rubs the back of his neck as he types out the next words. ] That does sound complicated, but do you normally speak about yourself and your experiences so easily?

[ he can't exactly argue on that front. it wasn't his business, and he also didn't think it was wise to argue against such conviction. ]

You don't have to be sorry. I'm sure there are some that could profit off of what you say. But, what kind of habit is that? [ ?? that's kind of weird?? (he has no right to judge) ]

One from work. I oversaw a lot of people who needed to know how to interact and deal with particular situations, so I became used to explaining it to new hires.

[ and boy, was that "turn around" rate something else. ]

We were the first line of defense! So to speak. By knowing all we could, we were better able to ensure everyone else's day kept on schedule. That sort of habit!

First line of defense sounds pretty dangerous. [ especially if they had creatures running amuck or cat-adjacent creatures driving people insane. ] At least you'll fit right in.
