β–Ά DOWN TIME / NETWORK MINGLE #2

β–· DOWN TIME / NETWORK MINGLE #2

β–Ά DOWN TIME.

As Outsiders make themselves comfortable back on MAIN BASE, they will be informed of a reward for their great efforts. A pizza party will be held sometime after the kaiju fight and before a Valentine's party. All it really contains is pizza being served in the cafeteria along with the following streamers with balloons:
GOOD JOB:
TOP KNOT (K.O)
HAT GUY (294)
SNOWMOON (292)
Those who do you attend the party will still get this message as a marquee text along their ocular device. Characters CAN take this message off, but it's a bit complex. Try under General > Settings > Notifications > Messages > Texts > Alerts > Appearance > End Battle Notifications > OFF. Hopefully you won't miss something exciting by doing this. The marquee will disappear a week after the kaiju fight.

β–Ά CHOCOLATES.

On the day of February 14th, every Outsider will find that there is a box (or several) of chocolate. As soon as their eyes fall on them, their oculars will automatically generate a message, almost as if it were a mission debrief:

β–ˆ β–ˆ β–ˆ MISSION OBJECTIVE:
βœ– Hand out all chocolate before end of day.
βœ– Failure to comply will be grounds for disciplinary action.

It's unknown who the order has come from, but those who don't hand out chocolates by the end of the day, will find that the very next morning, they are confined to their room for a full 24 hours.

During the duration of the holiday, Outsiders will see a tiny number in the corner of their oculars, which notates how many chocolates they have left to give. This number may also not move unless the chocolates are delivered with enough good will. Maybe add in a word of gratitude, a flirty comment or two, or even a fake confession if you're bold enough.

HOW TO PLAY: Feel free to use this post to play around with these prompts, or start your own logs (both are completely okay)!

NOTE: Everyone is free to decide how many chocolate boxes they were given and how stubborn SYNTHIA is in moving their count down. It can also be assumed that SYNTHIA will be encouraging and guiding Outsiders to complete this mini-mission.

β–Ά SYNDER.

Although ocular & brain implants are the means of communication nowadays, a messenger service still exists in this world. Mostly everyone uses LINE nowadays even if the need for cellular phones is null. Characters may have already recognized the interface to be somewhat familiar with the similar shade of green and same old slogan.

This time, a new extension appears on the LINE interface. It's something called SYNDER? Outsiders who are curious may investigate this program will see that it has already filled out a dating profile for them. This profile is only visible to Outsiders and not the LILITH crew or any civilians. Outsiders MUST change their dating profile to what they would like or delete it... those who are too slow to change or delete their profile may get an embarrassing profile already filled out for them. Once someone responds to their bio, there's no changing it for the rest of the month! So make sure you check out and see what the system programmed for you.

"The system is updating …

...

The system is updating … Wait.. SEOK DANG, what the β–ˆ β–ˆ β–ˆ did you do?"

Not long after that, another message runs across the screen.

"Hahaha, it was such a shame we had to fight that big whale bitch around this time of year! Love is in the air, so get loving! It might be the last time you get to do it, who knows! Okay, gang, don't tell the Commander or Captain about this. They're kinda serious biz but I really think we all could use some stress relief, right? Fill out this profile below and get minglin'! Or don't. It'll probably do it for you if you don't put SOMETHING though."

Welcome to our second Network Mingle! This is a Tinder mingle; a new application that SEOK DANG has installed into everyone's implants. It's taken a lot of tweaking and hacking behind the rest of the LILITH crew's backs. Seems like the only person on staff who is interested in seeing Outsiders get some is SD himself. These messages are encrypted from the LILITH crew ... besides SD because he's a nosy bastard. Sounds fun.

HOW TO PLAY:
1. In observation of Valentine's Day, this month's text meme is a dating profile! Pick the textarea that is under your TEAM NAME and fill out the spaces.
2. You can write the bio in character or as if Synder programmed their bio for them.
3. Body count can be confusing... even the automatic system doesn't know what that means! Does it mean how many people you have fucked or how many people you have killed? Or both?
4. PROFIT!
5. Special shout out to Roc for giving us this event suggestion!

Participation in this mingle isn’t obligatory, of course. If you don’t want your character to participate, you can simply assume the glitch did not affect them.

We also have a code below for fun, but please don't feel pressured to use it. As always, a regular text thread works out just fine! Most importantly, have fun! All tags on this mingle will count for 2 points each.

(Please remember to put warnings for NSFW/triggering content in the subject header.)

I didn't write it.

Curses aren't the same.

[ Bakugo, please. ]
blastedass: by bokunoicons @ tumblr (πŸ’₯ Piss off ya bloody wanker.)

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-02-16 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Are curses body-less?

[Look, kill counts are badass and you shouldn't spurn yours!]
stresspoint: (pic#16919026)

[personal profile] stresspoint 2024-02-16 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
No, but they don't have the same physical form as humans.

[ He's riding the technicalities now. Maybe on purpose. ]
blastedass: by bokunoicons @ tumblr (πŸ’₯ It's my victory.)

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-02-16 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
You don't like killing things, huh.

[Someone who dodges like that, putting up those sorts of walls to keep something defined as "other" than human...]
stresspoint: (pic#16895942)

[personal profile] stresspoint 2024-02-16 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
People normally don't like killing.

[ He definitely doesn't like it, even if he does want to be useful. ]
blastedass: by blastedass @ dreamwidth (πŸ’₯ Serious discussion needs happen.)

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-02-16 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Are curses something that can be stopped?

[Noted. Time to get off the body count topic and move to something else.]
stresspoint: (pic#16830388)

[personal profile] stresspoint 2024-02-16 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
[ Look, on some level he even feels something for the kaiju. Not quite sympathy, but a weight anyway. ]

Yes. That's the reason sorcerers are trained. We exorcise curses that other people can't fight.
blastedass: by blastedass @ dreamwidth (πŸ’₯ Shades.)

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-02-16 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
[Bakugou would prefer not to go around killing animals, but when monsters are actively hunting humans, heroes act. Natural disasters are a thing they fight against. But should it be hinted the monsters aren't just... hunting people? Yeah, then there's going to be some problems. Depending on the motivation of the hunt.]

I mean stopped from existing. Unless saying "fuck you" spawns a damn monster.
stresspoint: (pic#16909354)

[personal profile] stresspoint 2024-02-16 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
[ It's something they have to do. Like killing, even if Nanami doesn't love it. He knows they have to put up with that to protect other people and he does it. But that doesn't stop him from understanding the other side. ]

No. Humans create curses. It's not something we can stop.

[ Not without very extreme methods and he's not a proponent of that either. He's just getting by. ]
blastedass: by blastedass @ dreamwidth (πŸ’₯ My own support department.)

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-02-16 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Bakugo understands that requirement. While he's not going to proudly say he likes going around and beating up people (despite shouting threats to the contrary), there's no hesitation in his part when it comes to kicking a villain's ass to protect people who have no business getting their lives ruined by some bastard with a complex or issue.]

Humans create them?

[Not like inventing new curse words or appropriating old ones. Or those horror movies about curses.]
stresspoint: (pic#16830407)

[personal profile] stresspoint 2024-02-16 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
[ They want to protect the people they were taught to protect. If they have the ability, then they should be the ones to take on the hero's job. He knows that too, but Nanami has seen a bit more pain than progress. It feels harder to him. ]

Curses are formed from the negative emotions humans experience. They have no control over the curse energy they produce. Most people don't realize it exists.
blastedass: by blastedass @ dreamwidth (πŸ’₯ His like-i-give-a-shit face.)

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-02-16 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
[It shouldn't be hard to know who to protect. It shouldn't... but Bakugo's learned several hard growth lessons about that black and white view of hero/villain, good/bad in the months after he came to U.A. The world's far more shades of gray than the straight divide. Though he will agree the stronger should protect the weaker.

Even if it looks like there's no end in sight. He's seen both sides of that coin.]

And those negative emotions, curses, in turn prey on people.

[You are your own worst enemy kind of deal.]
stresspoint: (pic#16830388)

[personal profile] stresspoint 2024-02-16 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
That's right.

[It's all a big cycle. And Nanami is too familiar with the gray of the world. He wanted to live in a situation where the good and bad could easily be divided, but life just isn't so clean cut.]

And sorcerers exorcise curses. But we can't stop humans from creating more.

[He can't stop people from suffering. Or stop people from hurting other people, which is the true problem.]
blastedass: by blastedass @ dreamwidth (πŸ’₯ No.)

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-02-16 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
No matter how many villains heroes stop, more always appear.

[In the end, people are people. There will be those who want to hurt others or take advantage of them, those who feel they didn't get enough or the right whatever, those who think they're doing something good, and any host of other excuses for their crimes. "Bad" will always remain, a constant force against the "good" that people so often want to live in.

A cycle that goes on forever.]

But obsessing on what you didn't do will only weaken your ability to do what you can.
stresspoint: (pic#16830362)

[personal profile] stresspoint 2024-02-16 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
Who's obsessing?

[Little punk. He's pacing himself! Not everyone can just keep going nonstop without any kind of rest. Young people and wild idiots like Gojo think everything has to be done too hard all the time.]

I'm still a sorcerer. That hasn't changed.
blastedass: by blastedass @ dreamwidth (πŸ’₯ Gremlin in the picture again.)

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-02-16 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
Don't get pissy. It was a general observation.

[Touch a nerve? Bakugo is certainly someone who goes hard at whatever he does, even if it doesn't look like he's putting that much effort into it. But he's seen what happens when someone obsessively pursues a drive, both in himself and other examples. Good and bad...]

Never said it did.
stresspoint: (pic#16895946)

[personal profile] stresspoint 2024-02-16 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
[ He definitely takes his failures to heart. Nanami tries to deny that and tries to fight past it, but he can't help feeling the pain of his own inadequacy. When you work hard to reach a goal that feels impossible, every loss is a small cut that adds up.

If his body count had been really accurate, it would have counted those. He's grateful it didn't. ]

It's the same work we're doing here. We don't know how many monsters will attack either.
blastedass: by bokunoicons @ tumblr (πŸ’₯ Unusually serious for him.)

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-02-16 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
[He and Endeavor would get along in that regard. The impossible goal. The failure-based death by a thousand cuts. But Nanami didn't end up doing the things Endeavor did to reach his goal... That's for another conversation, should it ever come up. But Bakugo's not really looking at the body count anymore. It's a stupid piece of vague information the damn AI thought would be a conversation starter, not thinking about how it might affect people. Bitch.]

I'm more interested in why they're attacking.
stresspoint: (pic#16830364)

[personal profile] stresspoint 2024-02-16 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Nanami is too aware of realistic limits. He fights for his impossible goal knowing how impossible it is and takes solace in knowing he can at least do something along the way. He may not save everyone, but he's doing something. Small victories to soothe his small defeats. It makes his life worth it.

The body count might be a joke mostly just set to get people talking, but Nanami is always serious.]

Survival. They follow their instincts and we just happen to be unlucky.

[That's also why he hates the killing. Nothing is clean or victorious. Mostly, he has mixed feelings about their situation. He didn't really hate most curses either. What was there to resent?]

This time we probably seemed like convenient prey. It was feeding its young.
blastedass: by blastedass @ dreamwidth (πŸ’₯ His like-i-give-a-shit face.)

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-02-16 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
[It's the solace in knowing he can at least do something along the way that makes Bakugo more inclined to respect the guy for not being an insane individual. Even All Might had to admit he couldn't save everyone. It's not a comfortable reality for any hero, but one they had to accept and not dwell on. Or else everything would spiral down into madness.

It's a fucking ass joke in this place. Especially since the AI has no clue what kind of background the Outsiders come from. Where they came from. Though if it can read minds enough to drag information out of...]

That's not always the case in kaiju movies.

[Bakugo's not a conspiracy theorist or anything, but he has a healthy dose of distrust about people who kidnap other people. Sure, this one looks like it's just predatory instinct, but... Anyways, probably not something to pick at right now.]

Next question is what we can use the corpses for. They're resources.
stresspoint: (pic#16830289)

[personal profile] stresspoint 2024-02-16 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ Nanami recognizes that lure of insanity. He's never been able to commit to it, and that's both what keeps him so reliable and what prevents him from unlocking more potential. Even if it's subconscious, he holds his values too dearly. People matter. Individual lives are more important to him than the call of greater impact. Maybe it's a weakness, but he still leads with his soul. ]

Why do you think they're attacking?

[ Not that Nanami disagrees. He doesn't trust the authorities above them either, but he just needs more information. ]

LILITH is collecting some for research. What can we use them for? That depends on how close they are to normal animals.
blastedass: by bokunoicons @ tumblr (πŸ’₯ Unusually serious for him.)

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-02-16 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's not wrong about insanity. Some villains are so strong because they no longer care to limit themselves to things like morals and laws, some even discarding rational and logic altogether. It's amazing what you can do when you don't give a shit about anyone or anything but yourself. But Bakugo despises people like that, because society can't function if everyone acts that way. Just a bunch of predators and bullies where strength or deception make "right" rule.

And he knows about being a bully all too well...]

Can't answer that. But if their usual hunting grounds or natural prey are no longer available...

[He's sure Nanami's seen documentaries and news about that kind of shit. While Bakugo isn't going to blame or point fingers towards LILITH, he's at least keeping an open mind about the possibility. Attacks can be provoked. Though considering the sheer devastation this world's been levied by these kaiju, it's questionable the people here are at fault.

Bakugo opts to be wary, but hold innocent until proven guilty for the time being.]

Yeah. No point in wasting a resource that's sitting there doing shit.
stresspoint: (pic#16830355)

[personal profile] stresspoint 2024-02-17 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Then they'll turn to the next available prey.

[Bakugo has a point. And Nanami isn't completely sold by LILITH's explanation, even though they've actually treated him better than jujutsu society has his whole life. He knows better than to trust too easily, and that they probably have their own goals besides just protecting the public from monsters. After all, every organization wants resources and advantages. The teams are just a method of getting them that. They won't get more information than necessary.]

We can see if locals know if they are useful, but we'll probably have to collect the bodies ourselves.
blastedass: by blastedass @ dreamwidth (Default)

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-02-17 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I doubt humanity on this scale would be "next available", but they're attacking for some fucking reason.

[Bakugo likewise does not trust them, though he's accepted their explanations since there's really no evidence countering them. Like Nanami, he wonders about LILITH and its thoughts on resources and advantages, but considering the sheer devastation that's occurred (30% population remaining) the idea they just want outside help to save their asses from extinction isn't entirely hard to believe. But if they're going to use or weaponize the kaiju corpses, then he's more interested in looking into whatever's going on. For now, better to just wait. Irritating as it is.]

I doubt the locals know anything more than we do. They were attacked just like us.

[Then again, Nanami has a point. The locals have been through kaiju attacks before... They would know what happens afterwards.]

Hn. I'll ask around the police force.
stresspoint: (pic#16830360)

[personal profile] stresspoint 2024-02-19 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
We don't know enough about their movements. The city might have just been the biggest prey source near their territory. It might be a migration path.

Maybe it isn't, but we don't have enough information to say that.

[ He's just taking the objective route. If LILITH and everyone else around them are only acting on self-interest and bias, the only thing he can do is attempt to approach the world through observation and facts, treating both the shachimon and LILITH as impartially as possible. As a human, naturally he has to defend one side, but that doesn't mean he has to be personally biased or selfish. ]

If they can confirm that they're safe to use, we'll do that. The civilians could use some too.
