so what you're a sword then?
no subject
(Ding, ding!)
That's right. Are you surprised? Stories like mine are quite common in this country... even if this world is quiet.
no subject
[ it's a rhetorical question, just based on how quickly the subsequent message comes ]
haven't heard of stories like that, but I'm not surprised. japan is real far from... well, I'll use the modern term for it. mesoamerica. but point is, your gods and mythologies didn't exactly make their way over there, so I don't know a whole lot
no subject
Ah, well... how about a story for a story? I'll tell you one from Japan and you can tell me one from Mesoamerica.
(Which he assumes is the Americas... in the east. Yeah.)
no subject
so I can think about it, you want a story about "mythology" or human history?
no subject
What an impossible choice.
I have a feeling we'll have many stories to exchange.
Since I can't decide...
What if I tell you a story first and you decide which story it is worthy in tur?

so, hit me

There are many types of kami like the divine kami of the sun and moon or the humble kami of rocks or animals. Even humans can become kami if they become great enough. But in the same way that some humans can ascend and become kami, there are also stories of objects becoming kami.
When a "thing" reaches 100 years, it becomes alive. Upon what is both its hundredth and first birthday, it gains a soul and becomes aware. These are called "tsukumogami"; the kami of tools which are made by humans.
(Man-made gods in a sense.)
That is why it is important to care for even mere things. A mistreated thing will remember how it was treated and curse its master whereas a thing that has been treated well will serve its master in all times of need and to the very end.
(In the end, it's just a folktale-sy story.)
no subject
[ It's definitely not how things work in Mesoamerica, but that's fine. It's even the fun of it, somewhat. The fact that different cultures had different ways of expressing divinity was never boring, and he's charmed to hear that Japan was so generous with giving out divinity. He doesn't imagine it's the same as having a Divine Core, but still. ]
so, I get it now, mr. sword. congrats on a centennial, at least. [ he figures more, though ] weird question, but humor me. you like being alive?
no subject
(That next part, though... maybe it's telling the way it takes longer for his response to come in. It isn't as quick as the other responses and when it comes,)
It's been surprising.
(He doesn't really answer the question.)
no subject
[ That's just curiosity, and it's a little bit playful. For the other part, he patiently waits, and even no answer would be acceptable. As such, he notices that he doesn't answer the question directly, but that still answers his question in a way. ]
haha I bet. can only guess what it must be like to be given life that way. a soul's a gift for sure, but still, must be different when you didn't have one to start.
no subject
Hmm, I suppose so! But you probably know. "Being alive" can have different meanings for different things.
no subject
plus I get losing track. same with me. couldn’t tell you how long I’ve existed
anyways. what’s it mean for you?
no subject
(He's also experienced plenty of neglect and disrespect in his long life. He's just been luckier than others to endure as long as he has.)
Are you surprised that flesh feels different from steel? There are some things one can only feel in a human form and other things humans would struggle to understand.
(This isn't really answering the question.)
I don't know where to begin.
no subject
so, I’ll put it this way instead. don’t got parents so much as “creators”. a sword is forged for a purpose, and same for me. but that purpose ain’t the same as living.
so, let me put it this way. do you enjoy being able to decide your own fate?
no subject
A sword is still a sword. That isn't for me to decide.
no subject
sure it is! you’re a sword, but you still got a body to go experience the world with
…unless I’m misunderstanding, which is possible! you got someone wielding you?

He does wait a while. A good while, even! But about an hour later comes another message. ]
