Hey. This is Dante. You've probably seen me around base, even if we haven't actually talked (trust me).

Since we've just had some new people arrive, I figured now would be as good a time as any to put this out there. I'm not sure if anyone would be interested, but one of my duties back home was to have one-to-one consultation sessions with the employees in our department (still is, technically). It's nothing too earth-shattering, just checking in and helping work through anything anyone needs to get off their shoulders, but I thought I'd offer since it seems to help us out and I know things here can get rough sometimes.

Oh, and there's no pressure to reply here if you'd rather have privacy. I've also got a sign-up sheet on my door (Revelation, room 006), if you'd rather set something up that way. Just make sure to show up at the time you pick.

Maybe not, but it's something I can do, so I thought I'd offer. Help out where I can, you know?

What sort ot things do you talk about? Just anything?

we have a shrink here?? coulda used that a few months ago when shit hit the fan, honestly

what about the privacy laws - do you follow them or are there none where you come from? how do we know you're not just gonna spill all our deep, dark secrets while out there chatting? what are your rates?

Sort of. There are definitely moments like that, but sometimes they had something specific that they wanted to talk about.

[Or more commonly, specific things they wanted to avoid.]

But there are questions I usually go over with everyone to start out with. Kind of like a check-in, you could say?

[Waking up and being told that you were hear for nearly a year before being killed and resurrected without your memories makes adjusting to a new world more disorienting than it should be. Taryon might need to talk about that instead of ignoring it and fully concentrate on making "new" friends.]

It's something I haven't tried before. Might as well try it out.

Besides, if everyone else is going to be risking their lives out there, the least I can do is put my experience to use and help out where I can here.

I don't know if I'd go that far...

But... I haven't given up anyone else's secrets, and I don't plan to with yours or anyone else's either. That's the last thing on my mind. But I get the worry, so we can put it in writing if you want?

As for the rates... I wasn't planning on charging anything since I figured it would just be part of the job?

This is pretty bold of you, Dante-san.

I'd worry you'll be overbooked, but plenty of Outsiders aren't willing to admit they need this kind of help.

huh. most of us were brought here to fight the kaiju or assist those fighting, so I guess it makes sense to have someone whose job it is to oversee everyone's mental health

you got any experience dealing with nightmares?

Hey, you were the one who suggested I use the network. I just decided to go a different route from what I was thinking before is all.

Again, I don't know if overseeing everyone's mental health is the way I'd put it... I'm just trying to help where I can.

As for nightmares... Maybe it might help if your friend talked about the circumstances surrounding the nightmares first?

pretty similar, though, right? I mean, that's more mental healthing than most people do here!

hmm... yeah, makes sense. I think it might depend on if sh-- they're willing to open up about what happened back in october. so far we've kinda just been avoiding the subject...

Maybe the fact that I *wasn't* there when all that happened might help? It's not a guarantee, but I might count as a... maybe not a neutral party, but something similar.

that's a fair point. I've heard that sometimes a sense of distance does tend to help when it comes to opening up about things

[Well then! So now he has an official meeting with a professional. That sounds fun. If it doesn't turn out as interesting as Taryon hoped, he at least will have a pleasant conversation with a teammate he hasn't met before. Or has met but forgotten. A new friend, then.

In a few days, after coming home from his shift at the shop, Taryon finds Dante's room. Behind him stands Doty, a tall, arcane automaton from home to give him emotional support. He knocks, steps back, and puts on a composed expression while combing his fingers a few times through his hair.]

why wouldn't people talk to their friends instead of taking their problems to a total stranger

No, it's a good question.

Sometimes there are things you don't want to tell the people you know. Or maybe you want someone who won't judge one way or the other. Or maybe it's something to do with a friend to begin with.

I'm not saying you have to--you really don't if you're not comfortable with it. I'm just offering a hand for people to take if they want or need it.

If you need it, feel free. I'll do my best to make sure everyone who does feel heard.

[There's ticking that accompanies that slightly-raised synthetic voice, but before that can be examined too closely, Dante opens the door, brightening as they realize they recognize the person on the other side--at least in passing.]

< Oh! You were at Rodya's birthday party and the Christmas party, weren't you? Come inside. >

[They step out of the way to let Taryon in.]

I've got a pretty good guess, yeah.
